If you stick around here, you will learn that I am absolutely not shy about how life-changing my experience with therapy has been. I have been seeing my therapist, “C,” for about 6 years now, and I can confidently attest that she has helped me through some of the most difficult moments of my life.
Shoutout to you, C. You have made such a huge difference, and continue to do so. Your words have empowered me, given me confidence, and helped my inner voice lead me forward with self-love. Thank you for always giving me the courage to authentically be myself and for validating me when I could not validate myself.
In particular, there is a phrase that she taught me that I think about often.
“What other people think about you is none of your business.”
As a recovering people-pleaser, an aspect of myself that I tirelessly am working on is learning to live my life for me, to be confident in my own decision making, and not rely on others’ opinions to guide me. Of course, this also coincides with worrying that the choices I will make will ensue judgement.
People will judge no matter what. It’s human instinct.
I judge, you judge, we all judge.
What we are responsible for is how we choose to act upon these judgements.
I am learning to move forward with ease and confidence.
I am learning that it is not my responsibility to please others.
“What other people think of you is NONE of your business.”
Thank you, C.
With love always,
xo, chelsea
